Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary
Bentley's custom coachbuilding division, Mulliner, has designed a unique keycase to celebrate the brand's centenary. It's made of Dark Stained Burr Walnut with Piano Black Veneer and includes the flying "B" paperweight keys, as well as an unreleased booklet with 1930s 8 Litre images.
This is a great way to greet a new owner of a vehicle.

As a design-oriented company Bentley takes its aesthetics extremely seriously. It's evident in the precise position of its quilting, the selection of leather from by-products of cattle production, the timber from forests that are sustainably managed and the ingenious patterns that are etched on its levers. A car like the Continental GT W12 beckons as you drive by, displaying its sculptural beauty and power through carefully planned lighting.
The Continental GT is the most sophisticated open-top Bentley ever built. The rear tonneau on the Continental GT, for instance, featured the largest piece of dark-stained Burr Walnut veneer that was book-matched. Similarly, the electrically-operated glass sunroof and champagne cooler that incorporated hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal bottles marked a new benchmark in luxury and innovation.
Bentley is the most sought-after automobile brand globally due to its distinctive design and quality. The company continues to push boundaries using the most advanced technologies and craftsmanship. This includes the introduction of an electronic tilt-opening rear sunroof and a handcrafted Apple iPad docking station.

Bentley celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2019 one hundred years after it was founded. The marque, which is owned by Volkswagen alone following years of disputes with BMW and Volkswagen, had planned a series of special launches and events to mark this milestone. The marque planned a series of special occasions and launches to mark the occasion before the planning of a pandemic became a priority.
Design
Bentley is a renowned brand for its luxurious and ostentatious cars however, even keys are designed to make a statement. The Bentayga Key is made of sterling silver and features the large B' logo to show everyone that you drive a Bentley. The key is also engraved with the dates 1919 and 2019, to mark the company’s centenary.
The Mulsanne was redesigned and redeveloped by Bentley Mulliner, to be the ultimate Grand Touring car. The rear seats are designed to give passengers unmatched comfort and privacy. They were inspired by the luxury private aircraft. A custom heating, ventilation and air conditioning system has been developed to provide each passenger with the ideal climate control setting.
The Mulsanne has a twin turbocharged 6.75 litre W12 engine that produces 560bhp, and 479lb-ft of torque. This incredibly powerful power is paired by a brand new suspension system which provides Bentley's renowned smooth ride.
In celebration of its Centenary, Bentley introduced a unique specification known as the Centenary Specification for cars manufactured in 2019. The cabin is decorated with cross-stitching as well as contrast stitching in Centenary Gold throughout. The Bentley Wings on the headrests and seats are stitched in Centenary Gold, adding to the sense of celebration. A bespoke Bentley key case is also included in the Centenary Specification, making the Bentley experience all-inclusive.
Function
The Bentley Mulsanne key has a button that opens the trunk and a second button that starts the car. The key also has a button to turn on the parking brake. The knob can be used to fold or unfold the mirrors when parked in a tight space. This feature helps you get into and out of your car.
The key is made from vegetable tanned leather and takes about two days to craft each one. It is hand cut and shaped, then sewn, sealed and polished to give an extremely high-end finish. It is light and compact and will fit the Bentley key perfectly. Its design is similar with the Volkswagen Phaeton's massive car key, however it feels more heavy and luxurious.
Secure-A-Key is also included to help prevent keyless entry theft. This device is inserted inside the remote-control key fob, and is turned off after a few minutes of inactivity. This prevents thieves from transmitting the frequency of the key to other devices that are able to unlock and start the vehicle.
Bentley's distinctive style reflects the company's values of excellence in craftsmanship and engineering expertise as well as cutting-edge technology. Over 4,000 people work at the Crewe headquarters, and are responsible for the development, design, and production of Bentley automobiles. These workers apply skills that have been passed through generations to current automotive technology. This is the characteristic of British manufacturing at its best.
Personalisation
Bentley's Mulliner division lets customers create their own car. The "mood station" lets customers pick images that inspire them. They can choose anything from beautiful landscapes to sporting events. When each selection is made, a pattern will emerge and reveals the model and color preferences of the custom Bentley.
The resulting configuration is stored on individual R.F.I.D.-enabled keys that are then presented to guests in a hand-crafted key case. The keys are also equipped with Bentley Muliner Personalised Welcome Lamps, which illuminate the door-opening path with the owner's name and/or emblem when they make their way towards the vehicle.
Bentley estimates that it takes about 500 man-hours to construct and construct a Mulsanne. The main reason for this lengthy effort is a conscious refusal to embrace modern tech. The Crewe factory workers do not utilize a machine for arranging perfectly matched cross stitched leather seats. Instead, they do it by hand. Drivers must park their vehicles manually, rather than using the built-in sensors to direct them to perpendicular and parallel spaces.
The event also saw Bentley showcased its Mulliner personalization capabilities with one particular example that was the Mulsanne W.O. The Mulsanne W.O. Edition pays tribute to the founder William Osler Bentley. The limited edition cars include a key that displays a piece of the 1930 8 Litre crankshaft.
